At the 2007 annual meeting of the National Governors Association, the Health and Human Services Committee presented a forum on health care. Health officials and professionals presented information of modernizing and digitizing health information such as medical records and prescriptions. Among the issues they addressed were use of Internet technology, such as promoting electronic prescriptions, methods for implementing electronic health records, and convening stakeholders to develop regional or state-wide electronic health information exchanges (HIE) that enable health care providers, payers, and patients to electronically share health information. close
