Professor Nussbaum talked about her book, The Clash Within: Democracy, Religious Violence, and India’s Future. She described the rise of Hindu fundamentalism in India and the threat it poses to the democratic tradition there. She argued that the clash of civilizations predicted by Samuel Huntington and others does not occur between nations, but instead within them. After her presentation she responded to audience members' questions.

Martha Nussbaum is the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago Law School. close
