Witnesses testified about the role mentoring can play in ameliorating youth violence and dropout rates. The witnesses included top administrators from school districts that suffer from high dropout rates and have been designated as persistently dangerous schools. Four of these school districts were recent recipients of Department of Labor grants aimed at improving educational achievement among at-risk youth. The administrators talked about mentoring programs at their schools. close
