The Federal Communications Commission held a meeting to set the rules governing the auction of public airwaves to be held in January 2008. Commissioners voted to allow the auction to proceed without restrictions on wireless carriers, but without the “open access” requirements to resell portions of the spectrum to smaller carriers. They also passed rules requiring the construction of a public safety network. close
