Former network television correspondents and producers talked about the state of television news, its history, and whether there ever was a ‘golden era’ of television news. Video clips of television news shows were shown. Topics included the business of television news, news production, women in television news, and competition with newspapers. Jim Upshaw moderated the discussion. After their presentations the panelists responded to audience members' questions.

Carl Stern is now a media and public affairs professor at George Washington University.

The Radio-Television Journalism Division sponsored the session, “The Golden Era of Television News: Where Did it Go? Did it Ever Exist?” at the annual convention. close
