Officials held a news conference announcing that the date of the South Carolina Republican primary elections for the 2008 presidential election would be moved to January 19, 2008. The announcement was made in New Hampshire with Secretary of State Bill Gardner speaking about the state’s requirement to hold its primary election at least a week before any other, to guarantee New Hampshire the “first in the nation” status it had enjoyed for years. Following their remarks they answered questions from the reporters. close
