Speaker of the House of Representatives Foley and several Democratic members of Congress held a news conference in the U.S. Capitol to announce the names of three new Democratic congressional whips. Rep. Kennelly, Rep. Lewis, and Rep. Derrick were named to the positions. Deputy whips help party leaders round up votes from majority party members. Rep. Foley also responded to questions from reporters on legislation before the House of Representatives, such as the issues of extended employment benefits and the surface transportation bill. close
