The subcommittee continued to hear testimony into the Bank of Credit and Commerce International scandal and its effects on U.S. financial and security interests. The Bank of Credit and Commerce International, an international banking corporation, is under investigation for money laundering and fraud charges in several countries around the world. In July 1991, Great Britain seized the assets of the bank upon charges the bank laundered money for drug smugglers and terrorists. The witness was a representative from a Peruvian bank that dealt with the defunct bank. Ricardo Liaque, Deputy Director, Federal Reserve Bank of Peru, S.A. spoke in Spanish, with an English audio translation supplied by the committee’s interpreter. close
