Mexican President Felipe Calderon delivered his first state of the nation address, nine months into his first term. He outlined Mexico’s economic situation, and described his goals for domestic and foreign policy. He rejected the construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and criticized U.S. immigration policy.

A day earlier in the National Congress, where the president traditionally delivers the state of the nation speech, opposition lawmakers boycotted the session and President Calderon provided a written text. He delivered the speech the next day at the National Palace in Mexico City.

This is a portion of the speech.
