Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, president of the United Nations General Assembly, talked about women in the Arab world. Topics included their legal status as outlined in constitutions versus its practical translation, the personal status and family codes which are crucial to improving women’s conditions in several Arab countries, the reasons behind the lag in women’s empowerment, and future challenges which will face Arab women. She also answered questions from the audience.
