A Matter of Justice

David Nichols talked about his book, A Matter of Justice: Eisenhower and the Beginning of the Civil Rights Revolution, published by Simon and Schuster. He contended that former President Dwight Eisenhower was more active in promoting civil rights legislation than is commonly understood. He said that President Eisenhower assisted in the desegregation of the District of Columbia and the Armed Forces prior to Brown v. Board of Education and argued that Eisenhower was more progressive on civil rights than his predecessors in the Oval Office. Mr. Nichols also talked extensively about the 1957 integration of Central High School in Little Rock and President Eisenhower’s role in sending troops there. close
