Washington Journal was live from the newsroom of USA Today in McLean, Virginia, in recognition of it 25th anniversary. USA Today was launched as the first national newspaper on September 15, 1982. Editors and reporters talked separately about different aspects of the paper and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. Editor Ken Paulson talked about the concept of a national newspaper. National News editor Catherine Straight talked about how content is determined. Political correspondent Jill Lawrence talked about the permanent campaigning for the presidential elections and how the paper is covering the 2008 campaigns. business reporter and columnist John Waggoner talked about covering economic issues of concern to the consumer. Brian Gallagher talked about the editorial policy of USA Today and the unique style of its editorial page.
