Transportation officials and industry representatives testified at a hearing on airline delays and consumer issues. A record number of delays have occured in the past year. Most are due to adverse weather conditions, but even those beyond the control of the airlines have been aggravated for customers by a lack of procedures by the airlines. Over-scheduling by the airlines was cited as the next greatest cause of delays. These delays are location specific. For those delays caused by constained facilities, the chairman urged that interim action be taken without waiting for the implementation of next-generation technology and funding increased. close
