Mark Andrejevic talked about his book iSpy: Surveillance and Power in the Interactive Era, published by University Press of Kansas. He explained how corporations gather information about consumers by monitoring their use of club cards, online vendors, cell phones, TiVo, and Google. He warned that this constant surveillance poses threats to citizens, who are not able to access or verify the information that has been gathered about them. Topics included the interconnectivity of devices, the growing reach of the Internet, and the relationships between different companies and between the private sector and government. Mr. Andrejevic responded to questions from members of the audience.
