The House Education and Labor Committee held a hearing on the August 6, 2007, disaster at Utah’s Crandall Canyon Mine, focusing on the fact that such accidents continue to occur more than 30 years after the Mine Safety and Health Act was passed by Congress to stop them. Family members of miners killed at the Crandall Canyon Mine discussed the personal impact of the tragedy. They were followed by a panel of witnesses composed of federal and mining officials who spoke about mine safety and safety regulations. close
