Vice President Cheney spoke at the annual Weinberg Founders Conference about the history of the realtions of the United States with the Middle East and the struggle against radical extremists. He said that success depended on not just reacting but being proactive in protecting Americans through the use of international surveillance and interrogation. He said the those operations have been carried out with “the utmost regard for the civil liberties of American citizens.” Other areas of concern included Iranian interference in Iraq. He said that Iran would face “serious consequences” if it proceeded to build nuclear weapons. close
