Panelists talked about the history of the progressive movement in the democratic era. They discussed the pressure that the movement led by Martin Luther King, Jr., put on elected officials such as President Lyndon Johnson to pass civil rights legislation, and how the same type of pressure could be applied to the next president. They emphasized the incredible change brought on by the civil rights movement and how much Americans today owe to it.
