James Gaines talked about his book For Liberty and Glory: Washington, Lafayette, and Their Revolutions, published by W.W. Norton. In his book he explores the simultaneous revolutions that took place in America and France in the late 18th century and the rebelling armies respective leaders, George Washington and Marquis de Lafayette. Mr. Gaines chronicles the relationship between the two men, positing George Washington as a father figure to Lafayette. James Gaines talked about his book with Walter Isaacson. Topics included the revolutions as psychological events, how they diverged, how the French revolution was regarded by Americans, and the history of relations with France. He also answered questions from members of the audience.
