Freelance journalist Doug Grindle was embedded with a U.S. Army unit in the mountains of Khost Province in eastern Afghanistan. Soldiers from this unit patrol Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan. He accompanied them in their efforts to stop insurgents from using this rugged mountain area as a way to cross into Afghanistan. Soldiers were interviewed.
