Telephone lines were open for comments on the Democratic presidential candidates at the conclusion of the Heartland Presidential Forum. Live scenes of ceremonial dancers as the crowd left Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines were shown in the background.

Ben Smith reported by telephone from the Heartland Presidential Forum, billed as real people asking real questions. He said that although it was in Iowa and called a “heartland” forum it was held by the left wing of the Democratic Party, with a preponderance of representation from Chicago, and did not deal with issues prominent in Iowa. close
