The Democratic Leadership Council met in Concord, New Hampshire, to organize a branch of the Council in New Hampshire. To inaugurate the New Hampshire state organization of the DLC, several Democratic speakers discussed the future of the Democratic party. The Democratic Leadership Council is an organization of moderate and conservative Democrats with the purpose of realigning the party’s priorities in order to attract the mainstream of American voters. Speakers in the forum on the future of the Democratic party lauded the goals of the Democratic Leadership Council in attracting a greater number of Democratic voters through expanding the ideological basis of the party by stressing fiscal responsibility and a strong defensive posture for the U.S. Gov. Clinton, chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, criticized the Bush administration for failing to assume responsibility for the problems of the nation, and criticized the 1988 campaign for attracting votes through divisiveness. close
