Eric Lichtblau talked about the congressional debate on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act legislation. The Protect America Act expired at midnight Friday reverting FISA to its pre-August 2007 status. On February 12 the Senate passed its version of the bill that included immunity for telecommunication companies. On February 13 the House rejected the Senate bill, primarily because of the immunity issue. President Bush has threatened to veto any short-term extension of FISA and any bill that does not include the immunity provision. Mr. Lichtblau responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
