The New Cold War Edward Lucas talked about Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, which Mr. Lucas argued created a more autocratic Russia that was more hostile towards the U.S. and Europe. He talked about the structures built during Putin’s rise to power that have created a new threat to the West which needs to be immediately confronted. Mr. Lucas responded to questions form the audience.

Edward Lucas is the author of The New Cold War: Putin’s Russia and the Threat to the West, published by Palgrave Macmillan.

Mr. Lucas spoke at an event hosted by Radio Free Europe’s offices in Washington, D.C. It was moderated by David Shipler, former foreign correspondent for The New York Times. close
