Garrett Evans talked about the incident on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg on April 16, 2007, when a student killed 32 students and professors and wounded more before committing suicide. Mr. Evans, who was wounded in the incident, was inspired to co-found a web-based emergency alert system called School Dispatch which he believes will help save lives. He talked about his impending meeting with Illinois Senator Dick Durbin to discuss funding for colleges to install the system, which the company provides free of charge. Mr. Evans responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
