The panelists commemorated the 50th anniversary of America in space. On January 31, 1958, Explorer I, the first U.S. satellite, was launched. The panelists, some of whom were the original rocket scientists, talked about the 1955 Russian Sputnik launch and about the history and personalities of space exploration.

This event in the Von Braun Center Concert Hall initiated a year-long celebration of 50 years of America in space.
