This was a program of at the USDA’s Agricultural Outlook Forum “Energizing Rural America in the Global Marketplace,” which was held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel.

Joseph Glauber talked about the agricultural economic outlook. He noted that the amount of farmland both worldwide and domestically has increased over the previous year. He said that the demand for certain grain crops has increased at a rate higher than supply, which he said has led to an increase in wheat production. He predicted that the agricultural sector would be able to meet the demand created by the Energy Act of 2007, which mandated the production of 9 billion gallons of renewable fuel in 2008 and 10.5 billion gallons by 2009. close
