Secretary Henry Paulson announced a proposal that would give the Federal Reserve new regulatory powers in the financial services industry. Topics included being better prepared for ‘inevitable market disruptions,’ increased oversight of services beyond banks by the Federal Reserve. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission will be merged. After his remarks Secretary Paulson responded to reporters' questions. close
