In a preview, David Ward described the National Portrait Gallery’s collection of Abraham Lincoln portraits. He talked about the vogue of taking plaster casts and creating replicas of a person’s face. The museum owns two life masks of Lincoln and replicas of Lincoln’s hands, also taken from plaster casts. He showed many of the museum’s photographs and portraits of Lincoln.

The National Portrait Gallery will have a series of exhibitions of Lincoln portraits during the year-long celebration of the 200th anniversary of his birth.

This tour was conducted over a span of two days, the date is uncertain. close
