The memoir focuses on his work with President Kennedy, starting in January 1953 when he became first legislative assistant then speechwriter and advisor to the freshman senator from Massachusetts. In 1960 he was named special counsel to the president and was involved in the momentous events of Kennedy’s presidency such as the decision to go to the moon and the Cuban missle crisis. Mr. Sorensen recounted his relationship with President Kennedy, his assessment of his character and of his presidency as well as detailing the practice of speechwriting.
