Peter Schuck and James Wilson talked about the book they edited, Understanding America: The Anatomy of an Exceptional Nation, published by PublicAffairs. The boook is a collection of essays from social science experts that use international comparisons to help assemble the diverse nature of American cultures, institutions and challenges. The editors gave an overview of the book and then Martha Bayles, Orlando Patterson, and Linda Waite spoke about the chapters they contributed. They were then were joined in discussion of the current and future state of American institution and policies by Michael Novak. close
