The Senate Appropriations Committee held a hearing on the administration’s fiscal year 2008 supplemental appropriations funding request for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. In his testimony Mr. Nussle talked about the need for the levels of spending, said that the Defense department could face layoffs if spending requests were not approved by the end of May, and warned that the president could veto legislation with additional measures not related to war funding. Senator also questioned Mr. Nussle about the need for several Iraqi reconstruction programs. close
