Robert Schlesinger, former Washington correspondent for the Boston Globe, talked about his book, White House Ghosts, in which he profiled presidential speechwriters from the FDR administration to the current White House. Mr. Schlesinger interviewed over ninety writers that included Pat Buchanan, Hendrik Hertzberg, James Fallows, Peggy Noonan, and William Safire. He explored the relationship each president had with their speechwriters and recounted the development of the profession. He responded to audience members' questions.
