Civil War historian Gary Gallagher talked about his book Causes Won, Lost, and Forgotten: How Hollywood and Popular Art Shape What We Know about the Civil War, published by The University of North Carolina Press. In the book he examines the depictions of the Civil War in films and television programs. Professor Gallagher contends that depending on the political and social landscape of the time of production some details for the reasons for the war are featured while others are diminished. He argues that even after the publication of over 60,000 books on the Civil War more people have been informed about this historical period by film and television. Professor Gallagher showed slides during his presentation. After his presentation he responded to questions from members of the audience.
