Stephen Cohen, appearing by remote access from New York City, talked about U.S.-Russian relations, and what related challenges and issues the next president will face upon taking office in January 2009. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.

President Bush and Russian President Medvedev are scheduled to meet today at the G-8 summit that is being held in Japan. In The Nation magazine, Mr. Cohen wrote that neither Senator McCain nor Obama are addressing serious differences that exist between the two countries, and that the media and other major American politicians are not asking them to do so. close
