Rajmohan Gandhi talked about his biography of his grandfather, Gandhi: The Man, His People, and the Empire, published by University of California Press. He talked about the life and philosophy of his grandfather, Mohandas K. Gandhi (popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi), from Gandhi’s youth in India and England, to his activism in South Africa and leadership of the Indian independence movement. The guest interviewer was Amitabh Pal, managing editor of The Progressive magazine. The interview was recorded on the C-SPAN BookTV Bus in Chicago, during the Chicago Tribune Printers Row Book Fair.

Professor Gandhi is Research Professor at the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A former member of the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Indian Parliament), he led the Indian delegation to the U.N. Human Rights Commission in 1990. close
