Gil Troy talked about his book Leading from the Center: Why Moderates Make the Best Presidents (Basic Books), in which he writes that the best American presidents have all been moderates, citing the examples of George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. In his talk at the New American Foundation, Mr. Troy related the theme of his book to the 2008 Presidential election. He also talked about what leading from the center means. Following his remarks, he responded to audience members' questions.
