Witnesses testified about transportation programs to ensure air safety and security. Among the issues they addressed were procedures and equipment used at airport security checkpoints, surveillance techniques employed by airport personnel, and the division of responsibility for airline security between airports, airline operators and the federal government. In his remarks Assistant Secretary Hawley blamed airline operators for incidents in which passengers were incorrectly identified as persons to the terrorism watch list. close
