Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton addressed a crowd in Little Rock, AR, to announce his entrance into the 1992 presidential campaign. In his remarks, he sharply criticized the Reagan and Bush administrations for a legacy of “neglect and selfishness and division.” In its stead, he said he would “reinvent government,” and restore the American Dream for the middle class. He called for the return of values to American business and society, saying he would broaden opportunity for Americans while also expecting greater responsibility from Americans in return. He also said rich people should pay their fair share of taxes, and the middle class should receive a “break” on their payments to the government. close
