In response to a presidential news conference held earlier in the day in which President Bush defended his domestic policies, Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell criticized the president’s policies for failing to care for the economically disadvantaged. He mentioned the president’s campaign promise to create 30 million jobs in eight years, and described how short the president’s policies have fallen in meeting the needs of the American public.
