During a Rose Garden ceremony honoring members of the Justice Department, President Bush announced the nomination of Acting Attorney General William Barr for U.S. Attorney General. Formerly an assistant attorney general, Mr. Barr became acting attorney general after the resignation of Dick Thornburgh earlier in 1991. Mr. Thornburgh subsequently campaigned for a Senate seat in Pennsylvania. President Bush honored Mr. Barr’s legal record in the Department of Justice, and Mr. Barr briefly expressed his appreciation for the nomination in remarks lauding the members of the Department of Justice. close
