Admiral Frank Kelso spoke to reporters about the Navy’s 2-year investigation of an explosion onboard the U.S.S. Iowa. He explained that initial interpretations and opinions of investigators implied the guilt of sailor Clayton Hartwig in causing the explosion. Admiral Kelso indicated a second probe found no clear and convincing proof of an accidental or intentional act by Hartwig (who was killed by the explosion). The Admiral concluded his formal statement with the Navy’s formal apology to Hartwig’s family and the families of all those killed in the explosion. He took reporters' questions. close
