Several members of Congress spoke during the International Women’s Forum’s annual conference in Washington, DC on current issues, including issues of international and domestic politics. Sen. Bradley, member of the Senate Select Intelligence committee, spoke on the change in American leadership that would be necessary due to the changes in the global political situation following the end of the Cold War. Sen. Simpson, member of the Senate Judiciary committee, talked about legislation currently before the Senate and the recent Supreme Court confirmation hearings of U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Clarence Thomas. Sen. Simpson said that while he understood the portrayal of the members of the Judiciary Committee during the confirmation hearings as insensitive louts, he felt the extremists on all issues were directing public argumentation in American society. He said he would take his criticism under consideration, and appealed for a higher level of discourse in American political life. close
