Several hours after Senator Danforth’s remarks on the White House driveway, President Bush went to the White House briefing room to speak to reporters. He offered a brief statement on the Civil Rights Bill compromise, and spoke about his departure Sunday for Madrid, where he will help mark the opening of the Middle East peace conference.
