Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell spoke at the Center for National Policy on Democratic proposals to improve the economy, including incentives for first-time home buyers, tax cuts for the middle class, and adjustments of U.S. fiscal policies. Sen. Mitchell criticized President Bush for consistently forecasting the economic recovery despite indications to the contrary, and called for extended unemployment benefits for those Americans hit hardest by the recession.
