The president nominated Mr. Barr when Attorney General Dick Thornburgh resigned to run for a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania. Following speeches by Sen. Biden and Sen. Specter supporting the confirmation of Mr. Barr, the Senate confirmed Mr. Barr to be attorney general on a voice vote. close
