The U.S. Navy briefed reporters on the mine attack on the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58) in the Persian Gulf. The ship ship was seriously damaged and ten crewmen hurt by a mine blast. The Reagan administration blamed Iran for laying new mines in the Gulf and retaliated by attacking two Iranian oil platforms. Further fire was exchanged between U.S. and Iranian ships and planes. The incident occurred on April 14. close
