President George H. W. Bush stepped off Air Force One and delivered brief prepared remarks from a microphone on the runway. He thanked his delegation and hosts who accompanied him on his trip to the Pacific Rim countries and said the meeting with Japan’s leaders capped off a successful series of meetings with four U.S. allies, including Japan, Korea, Australia, and Singapore. He also connected his diplomatic efforts to open new markets with the expansion of democracy and American values. Following his statement, he briefly responded to questions from reporters on the tarmac. close
