A member of Nicaragua’s Sandinista Party talked about the role of that party in this decade. The Sandinistas controlled Nicaragua’s government from the 1979 revolution, until last year’s election. The party’s leaders were defeated in that election, but some Sandinistas still hold positions in the opposition government led by President Violetta Chamorro. Mr. Ruiz is the director of international relations for the Sandinista Party, known as the FSLN. close
