The five major candidates for the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 1992 participated in a televised debate sponsored by KUSA Television and the Rocky Mountain News. The candidates were asked questions concerning their views on U.S. political issues including the U.S. economy, women’s issues, and foreign policy by journalists and citizen representatives of Colorado. Highlights of the debate included exchanges between Fmr. Sen. Paul Tsongas and the other four candidates concerning his views on aiding the economy, and scattered laughter following Gov. Clinton’s remarks on the hiring of women in his administration. The candidates also exchanged heated comments on attack campaign ads during a “free-for-all” discussion between the candidates at the end of the debate. close
