Alexander Cockburn, a columnist for The Nation magazine, delivered a lecture at the University of Michigan Law School on the political agenda for liberals in the 1990s. He discussed recent issues that have split intellectuals along ideological lines, including U.S. foreign policy concerning Third World countries and domestic economic policies that continue to accelerate social stratification. He also discussed how liberal intellectuals may regain ground lost in the public forum to conservatives during the past few decades. Following his prepared remarks, Mr. Cockburn responded to questions from members of the audience. close
